Northern Beaches Parks & Walks to Get Your Fitness on during lockdown.
If you’re one of the lucky ones living on the Northern Beaches during this current lockdown, this is one of the many times you can count your lucky stars you chose the Northern Beaches to call home. With an array of outdoor spaces, you’ll be spoilt for choice as to where you can spend your allocated exercise time. As Northern Beaches experts we love exploring every nook and cranny in the most sought after Sydney suburbs and as a result, we’ve compiled some of our go-to exercise spots on the Northern Beaches. McKillop Park
Location - Lumsdaine Drive, Freshwater
Although this park is relatively small compared to others on the Northern Beaches, it packs a punch with its breathtaking views of the famous North Sydney coastline. Alongside its impressive lookout points, the park also boasts walking tracks and multiple sets of stairs (for those who favour Rocky-style workouts). Don’t forget to look out for the famous statue of the man who brought surfing to Australia, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku.
Jamieson Park
Location - The Esplanade, Narrabeen
For those wanting to mix up their traditional fitness, Jamieson Park provides the perfect location for a spot of kayaking. If you prefer to be on land the 42-hectare park offers an array of walking tracks flanked by an abundance of vegetation native to Australia. Not only this, the park is home to a wide range of native animals including wallabies, possums and reptiles. As the park is a wildlife protected area, you will need to keep your dog on a lead.
Berry Reserve
Location - 1417 Pittwater Road Narrabeen
Berry Reserve provides the perfect place to pop out for a midday workout. The park runs alongside the idyllic Narrabeen Lagoon and has an abundance of fitness facilities including an outdoor gym and running track.
Freshwater View Reserve
Location - 29 Pavilion Street, Queenscliff
This is a popular spot for weddings (outside of restrictions) as the park provides a flat grassy bank with unrivalled views. When the park is not bustling with wedding parties, Freshwater reserve is the perfect spot for a sunrise yoga session. If you’d like to lengthen your workout, the park is a short picturesque walk from Freshwater or Queenscliff beaches.
Hitchcock Park
Location - Barrenjoey Road, Avalon Beach
Hitchcock Park is the perfect place for sports lovers to get their daily fitness hit. With multiple playing fields and tennis courts, this well kept public amenity is perfect for any fitness enthusiast For those wanting to bring their furry friends, there are designated off leash areas, located to the north of the Careel Bay Playing fields.
Barrenjoey Lighthouse Walk
Location - Palm Beach
Home & Away enthusiasts may know this iconic beach as Summer Bay, but locals fondly know it as Palm Beach. The famous beach walk along the coastline starts at the Boathouse Palm Beach and ends 1.5km later at the northern tip of the shore at the historic Barrenjoey Lighthouse. Fitness enthusiasts looking to challenge themselves can take to the hilly sand dunes which flank the trail for some additional gruelling fitness.
Curl Curl to Freshwater
Location - North Curl Curl to Freshwater Beach
This 2-kilometre track is the perfect solution for a Sunday evening stroll or even a mid-day jog. Starting at North Curl Curl you pass through a dog-friendly nature reserve that sits beside Carrington Parade and then past South Curl Curl Lifesaving Club. From this point, you can make your way across the elevated boardwalk taking in breathtaking ocean views before finishing at McKillop Park.
