Living in Dee Why

Located 18 kilometres north-east of the Sydney CBD, Dee Why NSW is the administrative centre of the Northern Beaches council and with a mixture of residential living mixed with retail and commercial businesses, Dee Why is often regarded to be the main centre of the Northern Beaches region. With an envious lifestyle, one of the best beaches in the area, close proximity to public transport, and a number of other attractions (both natural and manmade), Dee Why is an extremely attractive place to live.

At Clarke & Humel, Dee Why is one of our favourite suburbs on the beaches and one of the most sought after among those looking to move into the Northern Beaches area and those looking to relocate within the area. Whether you’re looking for the perfect property for sale in Dee Why or rental properties in Dee Why, let us explore the beautiful beachside suburb and some of our favourite things about Dee Why from the incredible lifestyle to the property trends.

Lifestyle

With a number of seaside attractions including the beautiful Dee Why Beach, an ocean rockpool, beachside promenade and a lagoon, water activities are a popular pastime and way of life. The locals of the area often take advantage of every minute of the day by hitting the water for a surf or enjoying a leisurely stroll along the promenade even before the sun has risen.

With the beautiful beachside Ted Jackson Reserve and its adjoining playground and the lagoon side James Meehan Reserve, the area is a summer haven for families to meet and spend a day together. Some of the more popular activities include; enjoying a picnic together (just watch out for the seagulls), riding a scooter along the beachside pathways, enjoying the fenced playground and having a dip in the rockpool or lagoon.

Having such a envious long beach that is well known for its surf break, Dee Why Beach plays host to a number of competitive events such as; The Beachley Classic an event on the ASP World Surfing Tour and boasting the richest prize money in women's surfing, The Sun Run, a picturesque fun run from Dee Why Beach to Manly Beach, the Ocean Thunder surf boat series as well as playing host to Australia Day and New Year’s Eve fireworks celebrations.

Naturally one of the biggest lifestyle factors of any suburb and major drawcard is the diversity and quality of food within the area, and Dee Why restaurants are no exception to this. The beach facing strip along The Strand houses a number of high-quality cafes and eateries with a diverse range of cuisine including Greek, Lebanese, Indian and Australian. And the best part of it all is just sitting back and enjoying a delicious meal while taking in the ocean view.

Natural Wonders of Dee Why

Even though Dee Why NSW is the administrative centre of The Northern Beaches and does host a number of business and commercial areas, the suburb is home to a number of natural wonders.

Beach

Dee Why Beach stretches 1.2 kilometres from Long Reef in the north to Dee Why point in the south with the sand dunes separating the beach from the lagoon. At the southern end of Dee Why Beach is the Dee Why ocean pool which is perfect for a more protected swim. The beach also hosts a Surf Lifesaving Club and an envious surf break where surfers can be seen in the waves year-round, rain, hail or shine.

Lagoon

Behind the sand dunes of Dee Why Beach and at the northern end is Dee Why Lagoon. The lagoon was proclaimed as a wildlife refuge in 1973 spanning an area of 77 hectares including swamps and bushland playing host to a variety of bird life. Unfortunately, the rise in urban development in previous decades has had somewhat of a negative impact on the environment, however recent conservation and regeneration efforts have brought the area back to its former glory.

Coastal Walk

The Dee Why Coastal Walk is a 5 kilometre coastal circuit that covers a number of varying terrains and takes approximately 60 minutes to complete. The walk begins on Dee Why Beach in front of the Surf Lifesaving Club with the track then following alongside the lagoon until eventually heading up the Long Reef headland with its beautiful 360-degree views.

Bushland

The Stony Range Botanic Garden with its oasis of native Australian plants, taking in a number of microclimates, and famous for its spring floral displays is the perfect place to enjoy a walk, picnic or to host a special function. Located just off Pittwater Road, this is an often overlooked however, extremely beautiful pocket of plantation on the Northern Beaches.
